In Just 2 Days, Prime Video's New Heist Movie Is a Global Smash Hit

Stanley Tucci’s surprise heist hit rockets to #1 in 18 countries on Prime Video

Within days of its Oct. 16 debut, Masterplan vaulted to the #2 spot worldwide on Prime Video and claimed the top ranking in 18 nations—including Turkey, Sweden and New Zealand. The streaming surge is impressive for a low‑key release that barely registered on the U.S. box‑office charts. The film finds former MCU veteran Stanley Tucci playing Roger, a charismatic art thief who sets his sights on the Mona Lisa. To pull off the caper, he enlists a hacker (Simona Tabasco) and an explosives expert (Victor Belmondo) — only to discover they’re siblings and, shockingly, his own children. The family‑driven twist fuels the high‑stakes drama as the trio races against time and each other. Directed by Thomas Vincent, the man behind Bodyguard and Reacher, and co‑written with BAFTA‑winner David Wolstencroft, Masterplan was shot on location across France and Italy, giving the heist a glossy, European backdrop. The production, a joint effort between Gaumont and Amazon MGM Studios, leans on sleek visuals and a fast‑paced script. Critics are divided: while four of five early reviews are technically positive, many call the movie familiar and “glossy but hollow,” likening it to a recycled Ocean’s Eleven formula. Yet audience reactions on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb suggest it works as an enjoyable popcorn flick, especially with Tucci’s charm and Vincent’s direction guaranteeing a weekend‑ready thrill ride.
