It Ends backdrop

A never‑ending highway becomes the scariest road trip of 2026

Shot on a shoestring budget of roughly $80,000, It Ends turned a real two‑lane stretch of road—literally a highway that seems to go on forever—into a claustrophobic nightmare. The film leans on repetition and an oppressive silence instead of cheap jump scares, proving that a lean concept can still deliver big thrills. The minimalist approach caught the eye of SXSW programmers, and the buzz translated into a theatrical deal with Neon for a 2026 release. Critics have likened its ingenuity to the early work of Sam Raimi while noting a tonal kinship with the slow‑burn dread of It Follows, positioning the indie as a fresh alternative to franchise sequels. Because the road‑trip premise lets the cast improvise, the movie carries a loose, hangout‑like energy that softens its existential horror. That blend of atmosphere and off‑script chemistry has already earned it a spot on horror fans' must‑see lists, with audiences marking their calendars for a theater experience that feels both intimate and unsettling.
