Zany Trailer for MUM, I'M ALIEN PREGNANT Teases a Gross, Hilarious Sci-Fi Horror Comedy

If you're in the mood for something completely unhinged, the first trailer for Mum, I'm Alien Pregnant has arrived, and it looks like exactly the kind of gloriously weird horror comedy that Midnight movie fans love to rally around. Umbrella Entertainment has released the first look at the New Zealand indie, which blends body horror, sci-fi, and outrageous comedy into one delightfully slimy package. The film made its world premiere earlier this year in the Midnight section at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where audiences got their first taste of this bizarre creature feature. It's the debut feature from filmmaking duo Sean Wallace and Jordan Mark Windsor , who work together under the name Thunderlips after building a reputation with eccentric music videos and short films. The story follows Mary, played by Hannah Lynch , a directionless slacker still living with her mother in suburban New Zealand. After an awkward hookup with her mysterious new neighbor, her life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers she's carrying an alien baby... and the pregnancy is moving at an alarming pace. As if dealing with an extraterrestrial pregnancy wasn't enough, Mary also has to survive skeptical doctors, an unreliable baby daddy, and her relentlessly overbearing mother while trying to hold her life together. It's a ridiculous setup that leans all the way into outrageous practical effects, gooey body horror, and offbeat comedy. The official synopsis reads:"Mary is a slacker living with her mother still trying to figure out what to do with her life in New Zealand suburbia. After an awkward sexual encounter with her strange new neighbour, she suddenly finds herself in the midst of an accelerated alien pregnancy! “What follows is a classic Kiwi gross out take on pregnancy & parenthood that is not afraid to get weird, featuring standout performances from Hannah Lynch as the reluctant mother to be, Arlo Green as the hapless half-alien baby-daddy, and Yvette Parsons as Mary's overbearing mother." The cast also includes Yvette Parsons as Mary's mother Cynthia, Arlo Green as Boo, and Jackie van Beek as Ann. Thunderlips also wrote the screenplay, adapting the concept from their 2024 short film Help, I'm Alien Pregnant . The feature marks a big step up for the directing duo, delivering an original genre mash-up that embraces its absurd premise with confidence. The movie has been described as a tale of girl-meets-alien-boy mixed with the body horror of pregnancy, as Mary struggles with her changing body, the growing alien inside her, and her complicated relationship with her mother before all three collide in one gloriously slimy finale. Mum, I'm Alien Pregnant will be released in New Zealand cinemas later in 2026. A U.S. release date hasn't been announced yet.
