Harrison Ford has been making movies for the past 50 years, with several iconic roles and successful franchises that include Star Wars , Indiana Jones , Blade Runner , and recently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In his 80s, he’s showing no sign of slowing down, as his fantastic series Shrinking is heading into production on its fourth season soon. While fans are still showing up reliably to watch just about anything Ford stars in, the actor is concerned about the future of moviegoing. In an interview with THR , Ford talked about the issue, explaining: “I’m terribly concerned. I came up at a period of time when the movie business was at its zenith, when the movie business captured the zeitgeist of a culture, and there was a transference, a cross-feeding, and the culture captured the zeitgeist of the movies. There is no zeitgeist anymore. “We’ve been disassociated. We’ve been purposefully disaggregated into serviceable political economic units. There is an empty center that needs to be filled, to bring the culture back together, to bring the culture and the movie business back together, for the movie business to be useful in the consciousness of an audience, a culture, a community.” This is for sure a concern for movie fans, studios, and theater owners. The moviegoing experience just has not been the same since the pandemic. It’s been fun to see some of the superhero movies and family films on opening weekend, where you get a feel for how it used to be, but hopefully something can push theater-going back over the edge into the “cultural zeitgeist” it used to be.
