Karl Urban's Kids Had Very Blunt Advice For Him In Mortal Kombat 2

The Lord of the Rings and The Boys actor Karl Urban plays the role of Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 film, and now he's revealed some very blunt advice his children gave him after he agreed to sign on for the movie. Speaking to IGN , Urban said he"definitely felt the pressure" to nail it as Cage, in part because he wanted to impress his boys."I remember when I got cast, I said to my two sons--who I actually played the game with, which was my first introduction to the world of Mortal Kombat--and I said, 'Hey guys, I'm going to be Johnny Cage.' And they were like, 'Oof ... Big fan base. Don't f**k it up,'" Urban said. To help give a worthy performance, Urban said he tried to channel his"fears and anxieties" and use that to prepare for the role. For him, what that meant was taking a"deep dive" into the world of martial arts to learn more about the character and his place in the Mortal Kombat universe. This involved attending a karate event to see martial arts first-hand and later learning himself how to move as a fighter."Coming into Mortal Kombat 2 was hands down the most challenging, physical undertaking that I've ever embarked on when it comes to a production," he said."The skillset required was definitely an exponential learning curve that I have never encountered." Mortal Kombat 2 releases in theaters on May 8, and it'll feature a cameo by none other than series creator Ed Boon . Another famous fighting game franchise, Street Fighter, has a movie on the way as well .
